In his Programme for Government, John Swinney has pledged to end homelessness for everyone and for good and to make prevention the way we get there. This should mark a turning point.

We know that homelessness can be ended with the right political will. Now, the First Minister needs to match his words with action.

To make that happen, the Scottish Government must:

  • Publish a clear plan to deliver on Scotland's Housing Act, which will prevent people from being made homeless

  • Fully fund homelessness prevention at the upcoming budget

Let’s make sure the First Minister’s ambition is matched by his action. Add your name today and back an end to homelessness in Scotland, for everyone and for good.

Why 2040?

We've chosen this date because the Scottish Government has agreed a plan to deliver enough housing for everyone by 2040. This is a great step forward, but it will not in itself end homelessness.

It must be combined with urgent changes to public services so that people facing homelessness get the help they need, when they need it. This means getting access to housing and support.

This is a long-term goal because there's no quick fix. It takes time to build the right homes and redesign systems so people get support earlier. But with action from the Scottish Government, it can we done. We'll keep the pressure on - with your help.
