At the Scottish Budget in December, Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth has a choice: fund homelessness prevention - or see more people lose their homes. It's up to us to get her to make the right choice.
The Scotland Housing Act could help us to build one of the most progressive homelessness systems in the world. But that needs to be backed up by enough funding so that the duties in that law can be effective at stopping more people from experiencing homelessness.
The Scottish Government has already committed to ending homelessness for good and for everyone. John Swinney has also pledged to transition from crisis management to homelessness prevention.
But without the right investment in prevention, homelessness will continue to rise.
The latest Government stats show that homelessness has reached record levels in many part of the country, with 41, 443 households in the last year asking their council for help because they were homeless.
The Deputy First Minister has the power to put this right at the Scottish Budget. By funding homelessness prevention, she can help stop more people from experiencing the trauma and indignity of homelessness.
But she won't act unless we demand it. On the next page, you can email Jenny Gilruth and tell her to prevent homelessness.
This is our chance to build a future free from homelessness. Together let’s urge the UK Government to step up and deliver it.
